(sa) asura, [lang id =1028]修羅 originally meaning a spirit, spirits, or even the gods, it generally indicates titanic demons, enemies of the gods, with whom, especially Indra, they wage constant war. They are defined as 'not (sa) devas', and 'ugly', and 'without wine'. Other forms are [lang id =1028]阿須羅 (or [lang id =1028]阿蘇羅, or [lang id =1028]阿素羅); [lang id =1028]阿修倫 (or[lang id =1028]羅須倫 or [lang id =1028]阿修輪 or [lang id =1028]羅須輪); [lang id =1028]阿素洛; [lang id =1028]阿差. Four classes are named according to their manner of rebirth-egg, born, womb-born, transformation-born, and spawn- or water-born. Their abode is in the ocean, north of Sumeru, but certain of the weaker dwell in a western mountain cave. They have realms, rulers, and palaces, as have the (sa) devas. The [lang id =1028]阿修羅道 is one of the six (sa) gatis, or ways of reincarnation. The [lang id =1028]修羅場 or [lang id =1028]修羅巷 is the battlefield of the (sa) asuras against Indra. The [lang id =1028]阿修羅琴 are their harps.* * *六道之一, 華譯為非天, 因其有天之福而無天之德, 似天而非天。 又譯作無端, 因其容貌很醜陋。 又譯作無酒, 言其國釀酒不成。 性好鬥, 常與帝釋戰, 國中男醜女美, 宮殿在須彌山北, 大海之下。
